Meet Your Instructor

Christopher C. Melcher

Business owners, celebrities, and trust beneficiaries across California turn to me for assistance in protecting their most valuable assets in high-stakes divorces. With deep experience in complex family law litigation, I provide tactical representation in the most challenging family law disputes.

I understand the need to keep sensitive family matters private, having represented noteworthy clients in the largest divorce cases in California. My clients include A-list celebrities, executives, and tech company founders. Frequently, I am hired by other family lawyers as a consultant, expert, or co-counsel on significant divorce cases in California.

My passion is helping others and I love the law. My father was a trial lawyer and I learned not only how to be a lawyer from him, but what it means to be a lawyer. Before entering family law exclusively, I practiced criminal defense and civil personal injury litigation.

Additional Information About Christopher Melcher:

Christopher C. Melcher of top family law firm Walzer Melcher & Yoda LLP is ranked one of the best family law attorneys in Los Angeles. Mr. Melcher is recognized in The Best Lawyers In America 2025 for family law, appellate practice, and family law arbitration. Best Lawyers is the oldest peer-review publication company, which lists outstanding lawyers by conducting peer-review surveys, where thousands of lawyers evaluate their peers. For more than twenty years, Christopher C. Melcher has been helping his clients navigate all the financial aspects of divorce, including tax consequences of property division and alimony, corporate laws dealing with the division of a family business, and the definition of income for purposes of setting spousal and child support. He also handles appeals of family law judgments and writ proceedings from family law orders.

Mr. Melcher has presented over 200 continuing legal education programs to other family lawyers across the county on California divorce law and premarital agreement practice. He is a published author of family law treatises for practicing attorneys. A Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), Christopher C. Melcher is also an adjunct professor of family law at Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu. Christopher C. Melcher has served as Chair of The State Bar of California Family Law Section (FlexCom), which currently has 3,800 members, making it the largest family law organization in California.

Aside from his litigation experience, Christopher C. Melcher is also a legal analyst for various media outlets. For instance, Mr. Melcher explained Britney Spears’ conservator legal issues and the termination of her conservatorship on ABC News. Christopher C. Melcher discussed the effects of having Britney Spears rights restored to her and how the public was a driving factor that allowed her this freedom after all these years. Furthermore, Mr. Melcher spoke on KTLA News about how parental abductions increase during the holidays. During the interview with KTLA News, he discussed the Hague Abduction Convention, which provides immediate relief in many countries. Christopher Melcher stated that the root cause is a parent who does not value the other one’s relationship with the child and a parent who is consistently trying to take away custody either genuinely for concerns or through false allegations.

In addition, Mr. Melcher shared his legal insights regarding the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial on 60 Minutes. On TMZ, he discussed Lisa Marie's divorce and highlighted that judges are looking for adequate parents when examining custodial matters. Lastly, Christopher Melcher was featured on Good Morning Britain, discussing Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s separation. Mr. Melcher explained that the reason why their divorce escalated was attributed to the parties rather than the lawyers.
